A poem in the voice of Rosalita. Read More.

It’s my hips you look at

It’s my hair you look at

It’s my friends, my trends, my dance

You look at

I see a dead-eyed stare, I see eyes turn green,

I see sidelong glances from the mirror

My face in your pocket on your portable screen

But it’s not your life

And you laughed when I tried

It’s my life

[chorus]

Momma, I’ll live it how I want

Papa I’ll show you what I’ve got

My friends online say they can’t get enough

Oh It’s my life

I’ll plug at it ’til my fingers bleed

I’ll give it everything

I know that I’m enough

It’s my words you’re saying

It’s my name you’re saying

It’s my voice, cadence and tone

You speak in

Leave you behind? Oh, like I have a choice

When I worked my life for this here moment

I take a deep breath and you borrow my voice

To scream back

Scream back into the void, I am

[chorus]

Living my life

Momma, I’ll live it how I want

Papa I’ll show you what I’ve got

My friends online say that they can’t get enough

Oh It’s my life

I’ll plug at it ’til my fingers bleed

I’ll give it everything

I know that I’m enough

And I’ll dance, I’ll fly, I’ll fall if I wanna

I’ll scream all night if it pleases me honey

Take the chance in the right moment that I borrowed

Dreams, wholesale swallowed

But who says that I shouldn’t live for tomorrow?

I come from a country where wild flowers won’t grow

Call it home, but I wanna know where the highway runs to

Sweep through the dust bowl, like a tornado, I’m

Young, so full of bravado

Yeah so I’ll scream out loud on my knees if I wanna…

[chorus]

It’s my life

Momma, I’ll live it how I want

Papa I’ll show you what I’ve got

My friends online say they can’t get enough

Oh It’s my life

I’ll plug at it ’til my fingers bleed

I’ll give it everything

I know I can be enough

I’m on my knees

I’m still dancing

Baby grab this dream

We’re dancing

Borrow my voice if you need

We’re dancing

And you and me, we’ll scream while we’re dancing

We’re dancing

I’m dancing
