Send me to the city where the old winds blow
Where the seas rock heavy and the spires are low
Somewhere I heard there are jewels in this city or the sea
I’m filled with fear and history
Come with me to the city where I’ll make my home
For just a little while, I will come and I’ll go,
Between a city and my sin, trying to let the right ones in,
I’ll never quite know what it means.
See me to the city where I’m always alone
Where I’m cold from the heating and the long walk home
Where the castle’s closing early, where there’s much less hurly-burly,
Where I’m supposed to grow
Send me to the city, see me off on the train,
I’ll come back home to be happy again.
Send me to the city so that I may see the east
I’ll come back stronger, and smarter, and fatter, and old.
